There are some modifications that guitarists try that are extremely far out there. ??No, I'm not talking about scalloping your fretboard or anything like that, I'm talking about guitar modifications that can potentially ruin your guitar forever. ??These modifications, usually cosmetic, often include taking huge chunks of wood out of a guitar. ??I'm here to tell you, DON'T DO IT!!!! ??This post is a testament to all modifications you should never try on your guitar.1. Eddie Van Halen's "Shark"Seriously, what was Eddie Van Halen thinking? ??He took an Ibanez Destroyer and cut out a large portion of the wood, giving it the look of "shark teeth". ??Hence, the "Shark" was born. ??Unfortunately, by cutting out the wood, Eddie destroyed the sound of the guitar, causing the guitar to be near-unplayable. ??Thus ended the lifespan of the Shark.2. ??WangcasterBecause this is a family-friendly website, the picture of the Wangcaster will not be shown here. ??According??CarverDoug.com, "This started out as a Cort Stratocaster copy. ??I bought it on-line. ??But when I took it apart it turned out the body was plywood. ??So I decided to have some fun. ??I made a new body out of Cherry wood, added some maple for a new headstock, made a new pickguard and... voila!" ??There is no need to comment on what is wrong with this guitar, because one look at it will make it extremely obvious.

3. ??Bumblefoot's Swiss Cheese GuitarSimilar to Eddie Van Halen's "Shark", this is one of those guitars that makes people wonder what was going through the head of this guitarist. Bumblefoot, probably best known for his role in Guns N' Roses as lead guitarist, bought this 1983 Ibanez Roadster RS135BK for $180. ??After a few modifications, Bumblefoot decided to do something... drastic. ??"My dad had a bunch of drill bits - I drilled away the wood where ya rest your picking arm, and in the end it looked like shit.????So I kept on drilling and eventually it looked like Swiss cheese.?? I went to an auto paint store with a slice of Swiss cheese and told them I need to match that color.?? They hooked me up and I painted it yellow." ??Sure, this mod may have worked for Bumblefoot, but it can turn out much like the Shark did for Eddie Van Halen, ruining the sound forever. ??Not to mention the fact that anybody who tries this mod will simply look like a Bumblefoot knock-off, thus making it almost not worth trying to begin with. ??Guitarists need their own style, and taking another guitarist's custom design is not the way to go about being unique.I only covered the top three worst modifications I could find, but I'm sure there are some that are, unbelievably, even worse. ??If anybody comes across any other guitars, please let me know, and try to supply a back story to it, as well.
